Mercury Associates UK Ltd in association with The National Federation of Personal Security (NFPS), Edexcel and the Security Industry Authority (SIA) has been accredited to issue and deliver the following NFPS and Edexcel BTEC Level 2 & 3 and customised awards in:

  • Disengagement & Physical Intervention
  • Non-Restrictive Physical Intervention
  • Delivery of Conflict Management 

Who are these BTEC's for?

These BTEC Awards are designed and intended for anyone who may need to use physical intervention skills in the workplace and will be particularly suitable for those people working:

  • in Protective & Security industries (door supervisors, static & patrolling guards, court security officers, park rangers, traffic wardens, close protection officers)
  • in the NHS (ambulance service staff, A&E staff, security staff, nurses working with disturbed patients and challenging behaviour)
  • with children in residential settings
  • with vulnerable adults who have challenging behaviour
  • in schools, colleges, including special need schools, teachers and nominated teaching assistants

 

Aims of the qualifications

The Awards are designed to provide:

  • broader and enhanced skills for those people in roles where they regularly manage conflict and who require training in physical intervention skills
  • continuing professional development opportunities for conflict professionals
  • a specific focus for those working in the security industry who need further training following completion of licence to practice qualifications
  • a specific focus for those working with children and vulnerable adults
  • opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised qualification and to develop skills transferable into a range of differing work roles and environments

Learners will develop an understanding of:

  • the legal position as regard the use of force and relevant legislation
  • the risks of violence associated with alcohol, drugs, weapons and emotional distress, and with the physical intervention techniques themselves
  • when to use different forms of physical intervention, according to the type of service user (including adults and children) and the risk that physical intervention poses
  • how to use physical techniques that may be required to prevent injury or harm to themselves or others, in ways that minimise the risk of death or serious injury to all parties (on applicable courses)

  • BTEC Level 2 Award in Disengagement & Non-Restrictive Physical Intervention Skills (2 Days)

  • BTEC Level 2 Award in Understanding Physical Restraint with Older People (2 Days)
  • BTEC Level 2 Award in Physical Restraint Practice for Security Staff & Door Supervisors (2 Days)
  • BTEC Level 2 in Physical Restraint (Care & Control) for staff working with Children and Young People (2 Days)
  • BTEC Level 2 Intermediate Award in Physical Restraint Practice
  • BTEC Level 2 Handcuffing Course
